Jesus Borobia

Born in 1974 (Barcelona, Spain).

After graduating as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1998 I swarmed to Aberdeen (Scotland) where I studied a Master in Science in Pig Production. There, I met an Irish girl who was to become my wife. In 2000, I swarmed to Northern Ireland and in 2007 I obtained the Certificate in Pig Medicine by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. I have one son and there is a new addition on the way, sometime this year.

I became interested in bees because of my love of nature. They are one of the few creatures that you can keep in a small piece of land and that don’t require daily attention. I found working with bees highly addictive! I gained my Preliminary Certificate in Beekeeping in 2010 making an array of mistakes along the way. For my sins, I decided to carry on studying for further FIBKA educational modules. I am currently waiting to sit the last exam of the Senior Certificate in Beekeeping (Apiary Practical Exam). At present, I manage roughly 11 hives in 3 different apiaries. All my queens are native Irish black queens which are marked and clipped. I produce honey and candles for family and friends and also sell to the public on a small scale under the name Inis Oir Honey & Candles (translated as Golden Island). Recently, I started producing mead for personal use and for showing.
